Launched in 2008, Diversions is a collaboration between the Film Studies section of the University of Edinburgh and Edinburgh Filmhouse. It is the only dedicated platform for the exhibition of experimental film and video in Edinburgh. Bringing historical classics together with contemporary works, the festival aims to develop a broad awareness and understanding of a fascinating but little-represented area of moving image production.
One of the festival's unique qualities is its combination of screenings and talks with a one-day conference held at the University of Edinburgh. All the films are screened at Edinburgh's Filmhouse cinema and are introduced by a filmmaker, curator, critic or academic. The intimate context allows an open exchange of ideas.
Plans for Diversions v.2, which will take place in NOVEMEBER 2009, are under way and we will be posting more news as it develops. In the meantime, take a look at some of the highlights from last year.
